We have an exciting opportunity for an individual with a strong background in and passion for Disaster Risk Reduction / Risk Informed Development to lead the work of the GNDR network in either Africa or Asia, and be responsible for managing and coordinating GNDR’s global level donor projects. This is also an exciting time to join GNDR as we embark on our new 5 year strategy.
The Senior Regional Lead is a member of the GNDR Senior Leadership Team (SLT). As one of the 3 Regional Leads the role is responsible for all activities in the designated region (either Africa or Asia) and in addition, as the “Senior” Regional Lead the role will devote 50% of their time to coordinating and managing GNDR’s global level donor projects, including managing project coordinators and ensuring implementation is on time, budget, quality, and donor terms and conditions. Core responsibilities for the region include: oversight of membership engagement; supporting the election and strengthening of the Board and Regional Advisory Groups; design of donor proposals; implementation and monitoring of projects and activities with members and project; advocacy and influencing initiatives; and ensuring operational capacity of GNDR in the region and compliance to GNDRs policies and procedures. The Senior Regional Lead is also responsible for championing and knowledge management for one of our 6 “Risk-Drivers” (Climate Change, Conflict, Gender Inequality, Food and Water Security, Urbanisation, Migration).
A key requirement for candidates is a strong background in and passion for Disaster Risk Reduction / Risk Informed Development. Candidates will be educated to degree level in a relevant international development subject and have a strong understanding and experience of working on disaster risk reduction, resilience, sustainable development activities. Candidates must also have experience in programme management and implementation of large scale institutional donor fund programmes; experience of working with governments, institutional donors and inter-governmental bodies; experience of working in networks, umbrella organisations or coalitions; and experience in implementing capacity strengthening programmes. Fluency is required in English, with additional French or Spanish being desirable.
The region covered, with Africa or Asia will be dependent on the successful candidate. Within each region the locations we will consider are Nairobi and Dakar, or Bangkok, Delhi, Jakarta, or Colombo, though other locations may be considered. Candidates must have the right to live and work in one of these locations.
